Brenda Barnett loves to help other homeschool moms have confidence and joy as they teach math. Math doesn't have to be something you fear, and a poor math background doesn't have to be something you pass down to your children!
Whether math for you and your child is frustrating, delightful, or somewhere in between, Brenda's experience as a homeschooling parent and as a math educator will guide you to solid footing as you navigate the journey of home educating your student.
Brenda earned a BS in Mathematics and then taught in Texas public schools for almost 7 years. When their first child was born, Brenda had the opportunity to stay home and then, in 2001, the homeschool journey began. Brent and Brenda are still home educating their 4th child. Their two eldest offspring are graduates of the University of Oklahoma. One has a double major in Energy Management and a minor in MIS and works in the oil and gas industry in Houston, the other completed a Master's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering and works in Dallas. Their third "child" is a University Scholars major at Baylor University. Two of the Barnett kids are National Merit Scholars and all excelled in academics to the point that scholarships covered a significant portion of their college expenses. Academics, and especially math, were an important focus of their home education.
In 2013, Brenda founded High School Math Live, and in 2015 she founded Singapore Math Live. Through these companies, Brenda has the opportunity to share her passion for excellence in math education and to talk with many home educating parents around the nation, giving them courage and guidance as they navigate what often feels like a "scary" world of math education. Parents often say that Brenda's suggestions and encouragement give them the courage to continue homeschooling, confident that math-at-home can be done very well.
